Continuum: stereo tape (2002) 7’49

A dark composition that I completed during my MPhil degree which I think of as sounding like scraping my way inside the personal hell of an electric guitar to find my signature sound. The piece was created using a range of manipulated guitar recordings… extended techniques on guitar (playing with tuning heads, manipulation of pickup volume, with recordings processed via Metasynth (the ‘fractalised’ technique of resynthesising a recording using the original sound as materials for the osciallators). The sensibility was somewhat inspired by the Tibetan Book of the Dead, which I was reading about at the time, and the wonderful noise–harmonies of composer and guitar legend Glenn Branca.
