‘Machine Time’ is a series of drone pieces whose techniques derive from the cybernetic music of Roland Kayn and Jaap Vink. It treats the modular synthesiser as a cybernetic system which generates its music partly beyond human time and control. A human is in the loop modulates its matrix of feedback paths alongside machine processes of ring modulation, multiband filtering, reverberation and compression, whilst complex, chaotic, or even ‘life-like’ behaviour emerges from the interaction of system components.
